What Does the following Ultrasound Test Result Mean?
I have a complex heterogenous cyst on my right ovary. On ultrasound it has internal echos and prominent peripheral vascularity. Based on this information what type of cyst is most likely..hemorraghic, endometrioma, carncerious. I am 27 years old, never pregnant, with history of emdometriosis
Hello thanks for writing to HCM. The differential diagnosis for a heterogenous ovarian cyst covers a wide spectrum, however majority are non-cancerous. For the description provided, I will think about a hemorrhagic corpus luteal cyst(which is the residual appearance of a follicle that has ruptured). Other possibilities are endometrioma or a dermoid. With the features provided it is not possible to differentiate a hemorrhagic cyst and endometrioma. A followup ultrasound will help - see resolution in case of hemorrhagic cysts. Also the cyst size is an important criteria to decide further management.
Do not worry. In the absence of any symptoms, a followup scan in 6-8 weeks is all that is needed. Do write in again if you have any doubts. Bye.
